A real dining patio
Not 6x6 — at least 14 feet in one dimension so the table doesn't feel cramped. Bluestone or large-format pavers age beautifully.
A separate seating zone
Lounge chairs around a fire feature, off the dining area. Two zones get used more than one big slab.
Privacy plantings as the room walls
Arborvitae screens, layered shrub borders, or pleached trees. The 'walls' of the outdoor room matter more than the floor.
Lighting designed in from day one
Path lights, uplit trees, and warm step lights make the space usable past 7 PM — which is when most clients want it most.
