A great spring sets up the whole growing season. Here's the order we follow on our own clients' properties.
Late March
Walk the property and note winter damage. Remove sticks, debris, and any salt-damaged plant material near walkways and drives.
Early April
Cut back perennials to fresh growth. Edge beds. Apply pre-emergent if you want to reduce summer weed pressure in turf.
Mid-April
Refresh mulch to 2–3 inches, held back from trunks. This is the single highest-impact spring task for most properties.
Late April
First lawn fertilization. Begin weekly mowing once turf is actively growing. Inspect irrigation if applicable.
